THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Rezlife Church is a spirit-filled, Charismatic / Pentecostal congregation.

What does the Bible have to say about this experience for believers?

PRAYING IN TONGUES

Mark 16:17-18:

"And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover."

Acts 2:1-4:

"When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

Romans 8:26:

"We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."

1 Corinthians 14:2, 4, 14, 18:

"For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the Spirit he speaks mysteries."

"He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself."

"For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful."

"What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the Spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the Spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding."

"I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all."

LAYING ON OF HANDS

Rezlife Church believes in the power of prayer, including laying hands on believers and expecting the Lord to move in the lives of those in need.  There are many scriptural references to this belief.

Numbers 27:18, 23:

"So the LORD said to Moses, 'Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him.' ... And he laid his hands on him and commissioned him as the LORD directed through Moses."

Deuteronomy 34:9:

"And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses."

Acts 5:12:

"Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the Apostles."

Acts 13:2-3:

"As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, 'Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.' Then, having fasted and prayed and laid hands on them, they sent them away."

Mark 18:19:

"…they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Acts 19:6:

"And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied, for the work to which I have called them. Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off."

BEING SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT

2 Chronicles 5:13-14:

"Indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” then the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God."

Acts 10:9-10:

"Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners descending to him and led down to the earth."

Revelation 1:17:

"And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, 'Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.'"

1 Kings 8:10-11:

"And it came to pass, when the priests had come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD."

Nehemiah 8:6:

"And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground."

Psalm 28:1:

"To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary."
